For pianists, learning and performing J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations is something of a rite of passage. Glenn Gould’s seminal recording (and re-recording) come to mind, as well as Simone Dinnerstein’s more recent interpretation.
Dan Tepfer is getting ready to release an album of the Goldbergs where “he performs Bach’s original variations as written while adding his own improvised variations in between each, thus generating a dialogue with the old master.”
