First off, special thanks to Steve Smith over at Night After Night for calling me a “musicological marvel” (after you’re done reading to your hearts content here, hop on over and find out a whole lot of awesomeness from Night After Night). Super kind. Also, it was just nice to see the word “musicological” out and about in broad daylight (am I right or am I right?!).

. Festival of Contemporary Music.

For a personal perspective, composer Jacob Bancks, a good friend of mine from our undergraduate days, has a nice little write up here on his website. His piece, “Rapid Transit” was performed at the Festival (some might remember him from previous posts  updating his numerous awards and his fabulous Carnegie Hall debut that a bunch of other old friends and I got to witness – much to our delight). He’s got some nice pictures up, too, like the one below with Augusta Read Thomas (his teacher back in the day when we were fresh faced kiddos roaming around Chicago):
